“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything”- Plato.

Rap music brings together a tangle of some of the most complex social, cultural, and political issues in contemporary American society. Rap music is a black cultural expression that prioritizes black voices from the margins of urban America. Rap music is a form of rhymed storytelling accompanied by highly rhythmic, electronically based music.

1. Does the original Rap Culture exists in Contemporary Bollywood Music?
Ans. Rap has now segregated itself a lot. All the regional languages have rap in their music like there are Punjabi, Haryanvi, Bengali even Nepali rap nut the most existing rap is Mumbai rap that’s the Hindi rap in the Music industry. The reason behind the Western (Mumbai) rap being so famous are the tone of the lyrics said, dialect of speech and the style the rappers use in the rhythm. Gradually its taking a predominant position both in the industry and the hearts of people listening to them due to the new techniques and styles used in incorporating the raps into the songs and fusing them in. now we never know that how long this will last in the industry or will it change its style again to be in the top notch but the more it will be creative on its own essence the more it will shine and make a persistent position in the music industry.  This is just the beginning of this kind of hardcore rap in the Bollywood industry and I’m sure it will prove itself to be worthy enough to be equally considerable like other forms of music. In 2010, rap was a whole different art of music in which scrabbled words were used and incomplete sentences were there like I did in my word “U’re my love, my love” and “Zara Zara touch me touch me”, so these sounds were considered as rap that time. I wouldn’t call it rap, rather I would call vocal design but the people who are listening to this music will call these to be rap because they didn’t or still don’t have the knowledge of what is vocal design. I used to vocal designing along with styling the lyrics of the rap  but nowadays the rap that has become really different from the previous ones i.e., a full song has become rap implementing new styles of tones and having a meaningful sentence, expressing ones emotion and feelings through it with a proper story lining. So if anyone tends to rap with a proper story line, proper rhythm and accurate lyrics then according to me he or she will definitely make a place and position in the music industry.

2. According to you, how has been Rap implemented in Bollywood Music?
Ans. If you see back in 90’s, rap was something else. People were like “chalo rap karo”, for them rap was very straight with highly distorted meanings. I don’t understand why people used to say these things as “rap”. I used to hover a lot in saying that this is not rap. So, it’s started off with that conception and finally has landed in this position where it is now. It was the involvement of some terms like ‘yo’, ‘swag’, ‘haa’, and some unrhythmic lines, when Eminem came into existence and changed the whole universe of Rap Culture and he introduced the new techniques of rap infusing rhymes within the rhymes. He gradually changed the whole face of rap in the world and because of that I think people got inspired and started rapping in English, Hindi, Nepali, Bengali in different styles. That became a new culture itself. Earlier the lyrics were like “apne kaha mujhe yaha jana tha” – this is not rap, this is stupidity and like “apke kahne pe maine sabkuch chor diya”- you can’t write and form a rap like this, this is gibberish. The words of rap should actually get into your mind and grab your attention thus the lyrics should be used metaphorically. Mumbai rap in my consideration is more authentic and the rap done in Haryana has a very different dialect and tone to it, whereas the Delhi rap doesn’t work well. Mumbai is cooler. North Indian rap can’t ever beat Mumbai rap. Like in Bengali one very famous and very cool word that’s been used very frequently is “bhai”. It’s the culture of the place that determines the rap.

3. What else should be implemented or adapted in the rap of Bollywood Music in order to make it grow further?
Ans. If I see a Japanese movie, I will either like it or won’t like it right? And if I don’t like it then I would say that what else should be there or what is missing, how it could be more interesting to watch. So that’s completely up to the audience’s perceptions. If you speak about adapting new things, then I will say Bollywood has a different culture all together. We can’t expect the culture to be changed vastly. Surely it will evolve itself if needed but I don’t think it should be needing anything else to have further growth as people are interested in what the rap culture is now. I don’t think Bollywood has any pros and cons in specific that has to be changed in large scale. So certainly, Bollywood rap will evolve and will make its mark.
