Netflix & Indian Censorship of Sexual Content

A podcast channel called “Anything and Everything” run by Lauren and Hardee have recently spoke on an interesting yet contradictory fact about one of the best streaming sites all over the world called “Netflix”, stating about the censorship hoping to be done by the Indian Government due to the sexual contents on it. Netflix has contents of Hollywood movies and web series which have sex scenes and plots to emphasise the reality of the stories. Netflix, not being a platform of typical contemporary movies or series with item songs and superstitions, it holds its position higher with focussing more on the plots, sub-plots and the renditions of a story that conveys message to the spectators showing the realities of life. Showing sexual content in a movie and streaming it, has nothing to do with having “bad impact” on children, seeing it. Nowadays children of 15 years are having full access to internet which further helps them land to pornography sites, which are easily available and accessible. Though age seems to be a factor as 66% of GenX participants responded in favour of censorship, against 35% for GenZ. Children are now open to every nuisance, slangs, unethical and untimely activities, sexual activities in a very young age. Thus, the sexual content of Netflix, if censored, will not stop the children nowadays from adopting and learning such things. They will anyhow find their way to their desires. Therefore, censoring such things will not change the mindset of certain people who are interested in watching movies or series in Netflix. These things will not even help the society grow or develop like the Americans who have completely a different mindset all together. Thus, the government of India should think of removing poverty, illiteracy from the country rather than bothering on these issues which will not fulfil the motive anyway.
